First lists of the passenger registers Holland-America Line (HAL) online

Are you looking for passengers who traveled with the Holland-America Line between 1900 and 1969? From now on you can view the passenger lists via the Rotterdam City Archives and WieWasWie websites.

From 1873 until well into the twentieth century, the Holland-America Line (HAL) transported businessmen, tourists and emigrants to and from America. Between 1880 and 1920, around one million Eastern Europeans made the crossing to the New World. The HAL had offices in Bulgaria, Latvia and Russia where tickets could be purchased for the train to Rotterdam, the boat to America and again the train to every station in the United States.

Useful source
As part of a joint project of the Rotterdam City Archives and CBG|Center for family history, crowdsourcing volunteers are busy with data entry of the passenger lists of the HAL. A quarter namely the lists from the period 1900 to 1920 – is now accessible. The lists are an useful source of information for family tree researchers, historians and other interested parties. For example, you can find what the destination was, what was paid for the trip and how large the travel party was.
